Most of the drive between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City was on canyon floors between surrounding mountains. Therefore the highway, I-15, was surprisingly flat and the speed limit was 75 mph, so we made excellent driving time. A few photos showing the terrain follow.
We visited Temple Square, Utah's most popular tourist destination. Temple Square contains three city blocks with many attractions concerning Mormon pioneer history and genealogy. The general aura is religious and is quiet and peaceful. It makes one feel like they should not make a loud noise. The history wraps its arms around you. Part of the reasons are the beautiful and ornate structures plus the lush landscape and gardens.
The Salt Lake Temple. This building is the world wide icon of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Joseph Smith Memorial Building. Joseph Smith was the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Great Salt Lake is the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi River. It is also America's Dead Sea. The Great Salt Lake is a remnant of prehistoric Lake Bonneville which existed during the Ice Age. This is a view of the lake from Antelope Island. Antelope Island is one of the few places where tourists can actually access the lake. Dwain wanted to touch the salty water so we spent some time on Antelope Island. We did see a small herd of antelope but they were in the distance.
Yellowstone National Park here we come.
